People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has criticised the decision to close the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Shab-e Qadr, one of the most sacred nights of Ramadan, saying the “unfortunate” move was to “deprive” Kashmiris.
She also informed that Hurriyet leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, head of the mosque management body, has been “put under house arrest yet again”.
Shab-e Qadr, which falls during the final 10 days of the Muslim holy month of fasting, is considered as one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar.
In a post on X on Saturday night, the former Chief Minister said, “How unfortunate that on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e Qadr Jama Masjid has been locked up to prevent people from offering prayers & Mirwaiz put under house arrest yet again.”
“Land, resources, religion – what all will you deprive Kashmiris of?” she added.
