Uncovered manholes at Parraypora area on city outskirts pose a threat of accidents to commuters.
The locals in this uptown area said that as the authorities have failed to address the issue, these manholes continue to endanger lives of pedestrians in the area.
The locals said that along footpaths at Parraypora, multiple manholes are without any cover, and pedestrians have to navigate amid fear of accidents.
The locals said that after sunset, the streets are dark amid power outages. They said that in the dark, no measures are in place, which further makes the issue more dangerous.
“Normally, if such an issue is there, authorities put up barricades and quickly fix the issue. Let alone fixing the issue, there is no safety measure in place which can alert the pedestrians,” said Abdul Rahim, an elderly pedestrian.
The locals said that the area is the hub of coaching centers, and many students walk through these footpaths while risking their lives.
A senior official from SMC said that he would look into the issue. “I will reach out to the concerned officials and ensure that this issue is addressed promptly,” said that official.
