Ulfat becomes the first ever female parade commander at PM’s Rally

Senior Cadet Captain Ulfat Khan, hailing from one of the earliest villages along the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Uri District, has etched her name in history as the first-ever female cadet chosen as Parade Commander at the Prime Minister’s Rally (PM Rally) during the Republic Day Camp 2024 held in New Delhi.

A defence statement issued  reads that the momentous achievement not only brings immense pride to the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate and the 1st JK Naval Unit but also spotlights the Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhinagar, Jammu, where Ultaf is pursuing her BA English (Honours).

Selected from a pool of 2274 NCC cadets from 28 states and union territories and 17 directorates across the country, Ulfat’s journey from a remote background to a national achiever is a testament to her unwavering determination and resilience.

 

Born in Uri in 2002, Ulfat Khan completed her schooling in various Kendriya Vidyalayas across Delhi, Jharkhand, and Odisha before enrolling in GCW Gandhinagar for her tertiary education.

 

During the Republic Day Camp, Ulfat’s exceptional performance earned her the prestigious title of Best Commander along with the DG Commendation Medal Certificate.
