Uber is soon going to lay off employees from its recruiting team. The popular ride-hailing company, is making changes to its workforce. They are reducing the number of recruiters by 200 people. This decision was communicated to the employees through a memo on Wednesday. Uber is taking this step to reduce expenses because the economic conditions have become more challenging.
As per a Wall Street Journal report, out of the total recruiting team at Uber, 35 per cent of the members will be affected by these layoffs. However, it’s important to note that these cuts represent less than 1 per cent of the entire Uber staff. This reduction in the recruiting team comes after previous rounds of smaller job cuts that occurred in different departments of the company.
Throughout this year, Uber has already eliminated many other positions, particularly in its freight unit and food-delivery operations outside the United States. When combined with the recent layoffs, these earlier job cuts account for less than 3 per cent of total workforce.
Currently, Uber has more than 32,000 employees spread across various locations worldwide. It’s worth mentioning that drivers are not considered as employees of the company.
This decision is driven by the need to save money in the face of challenging economic conditions. While these layoffs impact a significant portion of the recruiting team, they represent less than 1 per cent of Uber’s overall staff. In addition to these reductions, Uber has previously eliminated jobs in its freight unit and food-delivery operations outside the United States. When taken together, the job cuts account for less than 3% of Uber’s workforce. It’s important to note that Uber has more than 32,000 employees globally, and drivers are not classified as company employees.
