U-14 INTER-SCHOOL GILES SHIELD: IES New English, Swami Vivekanand enter final

IES New English School, Bandra, and Swami Vivekanand International, Gorai, advanced to the final of the Under-14 Giles Shield inter-school cricket tournament. Off-spinner Yash Rawat picked up four wickets for 18 runs as IES New English School bundled out RR Education Trust for 98 runs in the first innings on the second day of their semifinal match played at the MIG Cricket ground, Bandra, on Wednesday.

In the other match played at the Parsee Gymkhana, Swami Vivekanand managed to score 245/2 in 81 overs. Devansh Tripathi (113*) and Viren Jadhav (49) shared a first wicket stand of 109 runs. Devansh then added 74 runs for the second wicket with Arjun Lotlikar to help his team beat Al-Barkaat MMI English School on better quotient.

IES New English School, Bandra, 279/7decl in 75 overs (Harshwardhan Barmukh 111, Shreyas Khilare 93) beat RR Education Trust 98 in 41.5 overs (Yash Rawat 4/18, Yaksha Salvi 2/6, Devang Tandel 2/21) by virtue of the first innings lead.

Al Barkaat MMI English School 377 in 68.3 overs (Akash Mangde 182, Agney Aadi 98; Arnav Lad 6/101) lost to Swami Vivekanand Intl School 245/2 (Devansh Trivedi 113*, Viren Jadhav 49, Arjun Lotlikar 40) on better quotient.

NSCI SNOOKER: Thakkar fights back to overcome Chavda 3-2

Harsh Thakkar exhibited tremendous fighting spirit as he twice came from behind to overcome Parth Chavda 3-2 in a keenly contested best-of-three-frame first round match of the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) organised 13 lakh prize-money ‘Baulkline’ NSCI All India Snooker Open 2023, at the NSCI billiards hall on Wednesday evening.

Chavda started brightly by narrowly pocketing the first frame and after Thakkar comfortably won the second, he again produced another solid effort to clinch the third to regain the lead (2-1). However, Thakkar fought back and with some steady play went on to win the remaining two frames to secure a hard-fought 58-65, 58-11, 41-53, 75-45 and 67-37 victory.

Meanwhile, Simranjeet Singh easily defeated Zubin Chheda coasting to a straight frames 3-0 (60-34, 65-25, and 67-13) victory to advance to the second round.

MI Junior Inter-school cricket tournament: National English School, Parag English School, IES High School register wins

National English School (Virar), Parag English School (Bhandup) and IES High School (Navi Mumbai) registered victories in their respective matches in different categories of the ongoing MI Junior Inter-school cricket tournament on Tuesday.

Parth Haldankar (6 for 17) and Dakshi Chaini (4 for 9) ripped through St Joseph School’s batting to help National English School (Virar) win the MI Junior Boys’ U-14 League match by nine wickets. St Joseph managed to score just 32 runs and National English School chased down the target in just 4.4 overs.

In another game of the same category, Laksh Joglekar’s outstanding performance with the ball (5/6) helped Parag English School (Bhandup) bowl out Ryan International School CBSE (Malad) for 26. Parag English openers then chased down the target in just 3.1 overs.
