Several current and former cricketers, including Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, lost their ‘blue ticks’ on social media platform Twitter on Thursday. A blue tick is considered a verified account on Twitter. Last year, Elon Musk bought Twitter and the platform began removing the legacy verified tick.
Under the management of Elon Musk, Twitter brought its blue ticks to paid subscriptions. Under this, if the user wants a verified blue tick, then he will have to pay a monthly fee. Due to this, many veteran cricketers of India have lost their verification tick on Twitter. By the way, the process of losing the blue tick is not limited to Indian cricketers only. Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and Pakistan Superstar batter Babar Azam have also lost their blue tick on the platform.
Twitter changed its policy after Elk Musk became its owner. The first blue tick confirms the verified account. It used to identify celebrities, journalists, politicians and other dignitaries. Musk said in November that Twitter would charge $8 a month to find new ways to generate revenue beyond advertising.
The company later proposed check-marks in other colours, in which business would be identified with gold color while the government and many institutions and officials would be identified with gray colour.
How to get Verified on Twitter
Blue Tick for Twitter costs $8 per month for an individual user. If an organization wants verification, it will have to pay $ 1,000 a month, and if it is an individual or employee account, then it will have to pay an additional $ 50 a month. Twitter does not verify individual accounts, as was the case with previous BlueChecks during the pre-Musk administration of the platform.
