Twin Jammu stations record heat wave as mercury soars across J&K

While the day temperature has increased across Jammu and Kashmir, the twin stations of Jammu division including the winter capital of the Union Territory, Jammu and Katra recorded the heat wave on Wednesday with the weatherman predicting generally dry weather conditions till June 27. The weatherman has also predicted hot and humid weather over many places of J&K during the next two days.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded the maximum temperature of 33.2 degree Celsius while most of the places across the Union Territory also recorded above 30 degree Celsius.

As per the details, Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 31.0 degree Celsius while the mercury settled at 28.0 degree Celsius in Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 31.7 degree Celsius while Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded 30.7 degree Celsius and 18.5 degree Celsius respectively.

Jammu station, however, recorded a heat wave as the mercury settled at 42.7 degree Celsius. Katra station also recorded a heat wave today with the mercury settling at 39.4 degree Celsius.

Nonetheless, the other stations recorded normal temperature today with Banihal recording 32.4 degree Celsius and Batote and Bhaderwah recording 30.8 degree Celsius and 32.8 degree Celsius respectively.

Pertinently, Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has predicted generally dry weather conditions in J&K till June 27, adding that there is a possibility of brief spell of rains and thundershower at few places towards later afternoon or evening during the period.

He further stated that from June 28 to June 30, the weather would remain generally cloudy while the light to moderate rain and thundershower are at many places during the period.

Furthermore, he added that from July 01-04, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected during the period while there is a possibility of intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places.
