Trinamool brings motion in Assembly against separate state for North Bengal

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal on Monday brought a motion against the demands for separate statehood for north Bengal. The motion was brought in by MoS Education Satyajit Barman during the ongoing Budget Session of the West Bengal Assembly.

The motion has been brought under Rule 185. Now, there will be a discussion in which members of both the treasury benches and the opposition parties will participate.
The move comes when political parties, like the BJP, have often raised the demand for a separate statehood for north Bengal in the past few years. Earlier, Alipurduar MP and BJP leader John Barla demanded a separate statehood or Union Territory status for north Bengal.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has continued to stand against any division of the state.
