JANUARY 18 (Gulistan News Tv) :  Transport Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, on Wednesday revealed that a draft Transport Policy for the Union Territory is under review. Speaking to the media during his visit to the Transport Commissioner’s office in Srinagar.

Mahajan stated that the draft, prepared by his predecessors, has been sent to the administrative department for further discussions. “Any developments on this matter will be shared” he assured.

The demand for a comprehensive Transport Policy has been a long-standing issue raised by transporters across Jammu and Kashmir, who argue it is essential for addressing challenges in the sector and ensuring better management of transport services in the region.

During the visit, Mahajan also reviewed the functioning of the Transport Department in Kashmir province. Stressing the importance of following traffic rules, he urged transporters to comply with regulations to ensure road safety and efficient traffic management.

The commissioner highlighted the Transport Subsidy Scheme, which has received 100 applications from Jammu and 35 from RTO Kashmir. He appealed to the public to take advantage of this initiative aimed at bolstering the transport sector.

When asked about the disallowed operation of public buses by the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) in Srinagar’s commercial hub Lal Chowk, Mahajan said, “This issue falls under the domain of the Managing Director of the RTC. He would be the appropriate authority to provide clarity on the matter.” Gulistan News Tv
