Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts and announced compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased. According to officials, a small number of houses managed to avoid damage, and a school remained unharmed in the midst of this disaster. The incident happened in Khalapur, 6 km away from Chowk village near Morbe dam, which supplies water to Navi Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “red alert” for Raigad due to incessant rain in the region.

In response to the calamity, the district administration called for NGOs to lend their support to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in the rescue operation. The difficult terrain has posed a significant challenge for the rescue teams.

Amidst the ongoing rescue efforts, the Raigad district collector and other officials reported on the situation. Notably, some individuals managed to escape the disaster, and immediate medical attention has been arranged for the injured.

The rescue operation is underway, with two teams of NDRF and ambulances dispatched to the site. Additionally, local volunteers, including the vice chief of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi party, have been assisting in the rescue efforts, saving several individuals from peril.

Furthermore, Deputy collectors have been assigned special duties to handle medical aid and rescue operations, as well as providing shelter arrangements for those affected.
