Commuters traveling from Gurugram to Delhi may encounter traffic congestion on Tuesday as road resurfacing work is underway between Delhi airport and the New Delhi district in anticipation of the G20 Summit.
A senior Delhi traffic police officer advised commuters to utilize the metro for faster transportation, as the road resurfacing is expected to continue throughout the day.
On Tuesday morning, motorists faced significant traffic jams on Sardar Patel Marg and surrounding roads in the New Delhi district, which connects to the airport.
The traffic officer explained that these jams were partly due to a rehearsal on Shanti Path conducted from 8 am to 10 am, but the situation should improve shortly.
Unlike previous rehearsals on Saturday and Sunday, Tuesday’s rehearsal was unannounced and took many motorists by surprise.
Commuters also reported congestion in various other parts of the city, including the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Mukarba Chowk.
While some commuters attributed these jams to police barricades and checks, the police cited morning rush hour traffic and heightened security measures as reasons for the delays, in light of the upcoming G20 summit.
Scheduled for September 9-10 in Delhi, the G20 summit will be hosted under India’s presidency, featuring leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies.
