In order to review the prevailing traffic regulation system between Sonamarg and Meenamarg along the Zojila Axis, ADGP Ladakh Dr S D Singh Jamwal held a meeting with all the stakeholders at Zero Point, Zojila on Friday.
The meeting was attended by SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, SSP Kargil, Ram R , SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir R.P. Singh , SP Traffic Ladakh Kacho Ishtyaq AA Khan, SDPO Kangan (SP) Muzaffar Jan, OC Project Vijayak Lt. Col. Nainwal, OC Project Beacon Er. Gaurav, SDM Drass Vishal Atri, DySP Traffic Ganderbal, SHO Drass, and Incharge Police Post Minamarg.
ADGP Ladakh, apprised the participants about the need for this crucial meeting to ensure the smooth and free flow of traffic at Zojila Axis and to avoid traffic congestion and inconvenience to civilians, especially at Zero Point. The ADGP emphasised that the Zojila Axis shall be operational for civilians first, with the second priority given to heavy motor vehicles carrying commodities. Moreover, there shall be two-way traffic for Light Motor Vehicles every day, and Heavy Motor Vehicles shall ply after the movement of the LMVs is completed.
Violators will be subjected to heavy fines via traffic challans as per the M.V. Act and rules. For better coordination among all stakeholders and to ensure hassle-free traffic movement and minimal congestion, especially at and around Zero Point, the ADGP directed the establishment of “Joint Check Posts/Mobile Units with officials from District Police Kargil, Traffic Police Ladakh, and Project Vijayak/Beacon at Zero Point Zojila.”
Head of Police Ladakh also raised the issue of dangerous curves along this axis, which lack crash barriers. He asked the “OCs of Project Vijayak/Beacon to install crash barriers or mirrors at these curves to ensure the safety of road users.”
Dr S D Jamwal stressed that there should be no movement of HMVs during night hours, free mobility should be ensured, all data of incoming and outgoing traffic should be maintained at the new “Check/Mobile Posts and Police Post Minamarg, and heavy fines should be imposed on parked taxis to prevent unnecessary parking at Zero Point.”
Eealier, enroute to Zero Point, Zojila Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, accompanied by SSP Kargil Ram R, also met with respectable citizens at Police Station Drass, interacted with them, and assured them that their grievances would be addressed at the earliest.
