The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway experienced a suspension of vehicular traffic for approximately 15 hours since last evening due to landslides at various locations in the Ramban sector.
According to official sources, due to heavy rainfall, landslides occurred at Mehar, Cafeteria Morh near Ramban, as well as Shalgarhi and Sherbibi near Banihal. This resulted in traffic disruptions in the Shalgarhi-Sherbibi area for approximately 7.5 hours and around 6 hours at Mehar and Cafeteria Morh today. Another blockade caused a disruption of traffic for approximately two hours at the T-N Tunnel.
Although the Mehar-Cafeteria area was cleared during the day, several vehicles got stuck in Shalgarhi due to mudslides. As a result, the movement of vehicles was suspended throughout the afternoon, and no light vehicles from Udhampur or Qazigund side were allowed by the Traffic Police authorities. A Traffic official stated that if the road condition improved, vehicle movement would be permitted tomorrow morning.
