Three men nabbed for sextortion in Haryana
Three persons were nabbed yesterday for allegedly blackmailing people with private photos and extorting money from them. The arrest was made after the Nuh police received a tip-off.
According to the cops, Wasim, Saddik and Hanif — all residents of Nuh’s Akbarpur — would make fake profiles on social media, impersonating women and add sham mobile numbers.
Krishna Kumar, public relations officer, said, “The trio would target men on social media who are convinced to converse on WhatsApp video calls, where the accused would hide their faces and use voice changing applications to imitate a woman.”
After some time, the accused would initiate private conversations with the target and when the latter is in a compromising position, the caller would screen record. “This recorded video is then used to blackmail the victims and money is being extorted in return to keep the videos private,” the official said.
Six mobile phones and eleven SIM cards have been recovered and upon checking their phones, fake profiles, threats to extort money and numerous explicit videos were discovered.
An FIR has been registered against them under sections 375 (cheating and dishonesty) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC at cyber police station in Nuh.
