On the Sazgaripora side of the lake, the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO), in collaboration with various stakeholders, has successfully revived long-choked springs in just under a week.
Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, Chairman of NLCO, explained that these springs are crucial for replenishing Khushal Sar’s fresh water. He highlighted that around 19 such springs in the region are essential for improving water flow and the rejuvenation of Khushal Sar and Gilsar lakes.
Wangnoo reported that three springs, including one restored by locals at Dooni Pora, have been successfully revitalized despite initial local resistance. He emphasized the importance of continuing restoration efforts, noting that one spring measures 20 by 20 feet and another 10 by 10 feet, with restoration completed in five days. Further clean-up and regular flushing are required.
NLCO, alongside SMC, LCMA, and the District Administration, has been working on cleaning and restoring Khushal Sar and Gilsar for over three years, stressing the need for spring rejuvenation and the prevention of drainage discharge for overall water body restoration.
