Actress Adah Sharma is overwhelmed by the tremendous success of the highly discussed movie, The Kerala Story, which recently completed a remarkable 50-day run in theaters on June 24th. Sharma expresses her excitement, stating that it is a significant celebration not only for the cast and crew but also for the entire film industry. She believes that the film’s success on the big screen will soon translate to success on OTT platforms as well.

Despite some reports claiming that the film had already been released on a streaming platform on June 23rd, it turns out that those reports were false. Sharma clarifies that a film can only be released on OTT once it has completed its theatrical run, so everyone should patiently wait for the official announcement. She reveals that the production team is currently deliberating on which OTT platform to choose for the film’s release. Since the film has performed exceptionally well in theaters, the decision regarding its web release needs to be carefully considered.

There have been discussions about the delay in the film’s OTT release, and director Sudipto Sen recently mentioned in an interview that its unprecedented box office success has irked certain individuals in the film industry who have formed an alliance to penalize them. When Sharma is informed about this, she expresses her opinion that a film’s success at the box office benefits everyone. She sees it as a blessing for theater owners, as it generates revenue for the industry and enables more films to be produced. She shares her recent experience in Karnataka, where theaters are running packed shows even today.

Due to controversies and accusations of political propaganda, rumors have circulated that major streaming platforms are somewhat hesitant to acquire the rights to the film. Dismissing these speculations, Sharma asserts that she doesn’t believe they are true. Initially, the film faced criticism for various reasons, but after people watched it and it achieved great commercial success, she has only heard positive feedback. She mentions that there are testimonials from the girls on whom the film is based, emphasizing that this film has taught them not to generalize and to avoid denying something just because it hasn’t personally happened to them.

The 31-year-old actress emphasizes that the film’s box office collections have silenced the naysayers and proved that good content is what resonates with audiences. She finds it immensely gratifying to create a place in the hearts of the viewers, and she believes that the film’s success speaks for itself. No amount of promotion or marketing can match the satisfaction derived from such an achievement.

With a budget of ₹40 crore, The Kerala Story has grossed over ₹300 crore in domestic and overseas collections, solidifying its position as the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023.

When asked about her feelings regarding being part of a ₹300-crore club film, Sharma struggles to express her emotions. She finds joy in the fact that more people are watching the film in theaters as the numbers continue to grow. She highlights the positive reactions on social media and how the audience refers to it as “our film.” According to Sharma, it is not controversy that drives a film’s success, but rather its content and the intentions behind its creation. She concludes by stating that she is still processing everything and the magnitude of the achievement has yet to fully sink in.
