The Kashmir valley, including Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and Baramulla, saw its first snowfall of the season on Thursday.

Parts of the Kashmir valley, including northern and southern districts, experienced the first snowfall of the season on Thursday. Popular tourist destinations like Sonamarg and Pahalgam were covered with around 10 inches of fresh snow.

An independent weather forecaster shared on X that light snowfall was observed in some plains during the early morning, while heavier snowfalls were recorded in higher-altitude areas. He also mentioned that the weather in Jammu and Kashmir would remain dry for the next 12 hours, with only a slight chance of rain and snow in certain regions. “Overall, no significant snowstorm is expected,” he added.

The forecaster further predicted that dry weather will prevail in the region for the coming week starting tomorrow.

Reports indicated that Heerpora in Shopian district, located in southern Kashmir, received a heavy snowfall. Social media footage from residents also showed fresh snow in Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and Tangmarg.

Baramulla in northern Kashmir also witnessed its first snowfall of the season, prompting authorities to deploy machinery to clear snow from the Narbal-Baramulla highway.
