Telegram’s founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, has announced that the messaging app will soon introduce a Stories feature. Currently in the testing phase, this new feature is scheduled to be released in July of this year.
In a post on his Telegram channel, Durov mentioned that Stories account for more than half of all feature requests he receives. This feature is already present on Meta’s Facebook and Instagram platforms.
Durov emphasized that the addition of Stories will make the app more “social and fun.” Users will have control over the visibility of their Stories, with options to choose whether everyone, only contacts, selected contacts, or a list of Close Friends can view them.
The Stories section will be located at the top of the chat list, allowing easy access for users. They will also have the option to hide Stories or move them to the “Hidden” list in the Contacts section.
Durov highlighted that the Stories feature will include not only photo and video editing tools, but also the ability to add captions, context, links, and tag other users. Users will be able to capture photos and videos simultaneously using both front and rear cameras.
Furthermore, users will be able to set the expiration time for their stories, ranging from six to 48 hours. They can also choose to permanently display stories on their profile page, with individual privacy settings for each story.
Durov also announced that the app will soon introduce the ability to repost messages from channels to stories.
