Communist Party of India (CPI Marxist) leader MY Tarigami on Thursday expressing concern over the five rail lines project in Kashmir said that the railway line survey should not damage the orchards of south Kashmir people and it should be done with utmost care because it is their sole source of income.
Expressing concern over the five rail lines in Kashmir, Tarigami told reporters, “The govt jobs are shirking in Kashmir and the unemployment is touching sky here. The only major source of income is in these orchards like fruits and that is why our farmers have launched an ‘Apple Federation’ last year”.
He added, “The govt has begin a survey for the railway line in South Kashmir districts like Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag and perhaps Pulwama to extend railway networks. We want that rail network be increased but with that the foundational aim of this railway line construction is to provide convenience to locals, but the locals are worried in south Kashmir because of this survey as they have orchards there”.
He further said, “The railway department and South Kashmir administration should hear out the complaints of local people and the railway project should provide them relief and should not add more woes to their existing issues. The objective of railway construction is to provide more privileges to commoners and it is a major source of transportation and travelling, but with that their orchards should not be damaged as it their only source of earning livelihood”.
“We appeal railway department to be careful while conducting railway line survey and it should not be done recklessly and the local regime should monitor it themselves without discomforting locals”, he appealed.
