Tanisha Mehta, an actor-model, believes that the small screen offers a more favorable and secure setting for young actors, particularly women.
The entertainment industry is witnessing progress across various mediums, and there is a collective eagerness to explore and experiment. From my perspective, the television industry aligns well with the preferences of young individuals and provides a safe environment for newcomers, particularly young women. During my years in the industry, I have had a positive experience and have observed how the entire cast and crew of a show quickly form a close-knit family, highlighting the functioning of the industry.
Having relocated from Australia to pursue a career in the Indian entertainment industry, Mehta shares, “Prior to coming to India, I had been involved in a few Hindi music videos. I left behind a comfortable life to pursue acting as my profession. Initially, it was challenging to navigate auditions and find the right opportunities. There was a moment when I considered returning, but my mother encouraged me to stay. That’s when I took the time to work on various aspects, including improving my diction, which eventually led to landing my first show.”
Mehta expresses concern about the increasing impact of social media on actors’ professional opportunities. She finds the current social media landscape to be unrealistic and imposing, particularly when work prospects are determined based on the number of followers. Balancing both her social media profiles and her television career has proven to be a challenging task. Mehta believes it is crucial for the industry to prioritize the value of work and talent, as they should be the determining factors. With the ability to buy followers easily, she questions where this trend will ultimately lead, as those who put in hard work and effort are not being rewarded. Mehta’s primary focus remains on honing her craft, and she is currently filming for the show Lag Ja Gale.
