Gulistan News Tv Desk , April18 : An estimated 500,000 weapons, once belonging to Afghan forces and funded by the United States, are now missing, sold, or smuggled to militant groups, UN sources tell Gulistan News TV.After the Taliban seized power in 2021, they inherited nearly one million pieces of military equipment. Now, according to a closed-door UN Security Council briefing, half of that arsenal is “unaccounted for,” with arms flowing to TTP, Al-Qaeda affiliates, and others via black markets. The Taliban deny the claims, insisting weapons are secure. However, UN investigations reveal local Taliban commanders are trading arms for influence, while secret online arms markets thrive, particularly on apps like WhatsApp.Despite promises of disabling equipment during U.S. withdrawal, the Taliban continue to use American-made vehicles and weapons, strengthening their military hold.Former U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to retrieve the equipment, but experts warn recovery efforts would be too costly and largely futile.he widespread circulation of advanced arms now poses a growing threat across the region.
