Surankote, January 20, 2025 (Gulistan News Tv): In a significant development, a large signature campaign, led by Choudhary Mohd Akram, Hon’ble MLA of Surankote, culminated in the submission of a memorandum addressed to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, urging the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The memorandum was officially handed over to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Surankote, who will forward it to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The campaign, which saw overwhelming participation from the public, was also accompanied by Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Hon’ble MLA of Thanamandi, who extended his full support to the demand. Both MLAs highlighted the immense hardships, loss of dignity, and diminished identity faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir since the region’s transition into a Union Territory on August 5, 2019.

Addressing the gathering, Choudhary Mohd Akram emphasized, “The restoration of statehood is not just a demand but the rightful aspiration of every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir. It is crucial for reclaiming our dignity, identity, and representation. We are hopeful that the Hon’ble Prime Minister will act on this genuine plea without further delay.”

Adding to the call for statehood restoration, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan stated, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have endured prolonged challenges since the abrogation of Article 370. The restoration of statehood is imperative for restoring trust and ensuring holistic development in the region. It is time for the Union Government to honor its assurances made in Parliament and to the people of this region.”

The memorandum further underlined the promises made by the Union Government and the Hon’ble Supreme Court regarding the restoration of statehood. It highlighted how the ongoing uncertainty has adversely impacted every aspect of life, from governance to economic development.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate assured the delegation that the memorandum would be forwarded promptly to the Prime Minister’s Office for consideration.

The campaign, which was widely supported by residents, marked a collective effort to draw attention to this pressing issue. Independent media houses covered the event extensively to amplify the voices of the people, ensuring that their demands are heard at the national level. (Gulistan News Tv)
