“Stree 2,” starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, made an impressive debut at the box office, collecting a whopping ₹46 crore on its opening day, August 15, 2024. The film also garnered ₹8.35 crore from paid previews on Wednesday, taking its total first-day collection to ₹54.35 crore. Here are the key records the film set on its opening day:

  1. Biggest Bollywood Opener of 2024: “Stree 2” surpassed other major releases like “Fighter” and “Kalki 2898” (Hindi), which collected ₹22.6 crore each on their first day, to become the biggest Bollywood opener of the year.
  2. Biggest Opener for Shraddha Kapoor: The film set a new benchmark for Shraddha Kapoor, surpassing her previous highest opener, “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar,” which had collected ₹15.73 crore on its first day.
  3. Biggest Opener for Rajkummar Rao: “Stree 2” also became the biggest opener for Rajkummar Rao, marking the first time a film led by him achieved a double-digit opening.
  4. 7th Biggest Hindi Opener of All Time: With its ₹46 crore collection, “Stree 2” became the 7th highest opening for a Hindi film ever, surpassing blockbusters like “Baahubali 2” (Hindi) and “Tiger 3.” If the paid previews are included, it ranks 4th all-time, just behind “Animal,” “Pathaan,” and “Jawan.”
  5. Biggest Opening for a Horror Film: “Stree 2” set a new record for horror-comedy films, crossing the ₹40 crore mark on its first day. It outperformed “Golmaal Again,” the previous record-holder, which earned ₹30.14 crore.
  6. Biggest Opening for a Hindi Film Sequel/Franchise: The film also claimed the title of the biggest opener for a Hindi film sequel or franchise, surpassing “Tiger 3” which had a ₹43 crore opening.

“Stree 2” is benefiting from a long holiday weekend and strong word-of-mouth, which could help it cross the ₹150 crore mark by the end of its opening weekend, despite competition from other major releases like Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein” and John Abraham’s “Vedaa.”
