After being closed for a week due to heavy snowfall, the Srinagar-Leh highway has finally reopened for one-way traffic from the Sonamarg side.
The closure, enforced by the administration, left hundreds of passengers and vegetable vehicles stranded in Drass and Sonamarg.
The Border Roads Organization deployed machinery and workers to clear the snow at various points along the treacherous Zojila Pass, facilitating the highway’s reopening.
According to a traffic police official, following clearance from beacon authorities, vehicles were allowed to travel from Sonmarg to Kargil. Priority is being given to passenger vehicles, followed by essential transportation such as Tata mobiles carrying vegetables.
The official emphasized that heavy vehicle traffic will not be permitted on the highway until further notice, ensuring the safety of commuters amid ongoing winter conditions.
