Srinagar-Ladakh Highway reopened, One-Way Traffic Resumes

After being closed for 30 days due to heavy snowfall, the vital 434-kilometre Srinagar-Ladakh highway has reopened for one-way traffic from the Minimarg side, officials said here on Thursday.

Authorities had shut down the highway as a precautionary measure, citing adverse conditions in key areas like Drass, Zojila Pass, ChiniNallah, Captain Morh, and Sonamarg.

Project Vijayak and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) undertook emergency snow removal operations to clear the route.

An official confirmed the passage of around 36 Light Motor Vehicles from the Minimarg side, with further traffic advisories and cut-off times expected.

“Only Tata Mobiles transporting essential commodities are permitted until road conditions improve,” he said, adding that strict measures are in place, including the use of anti-skid chains, with vehicles lacking them denied passage.

“Overloaded and over-height vehicles are strictly prohibited to ensure safer transit for all travellers to Leh-Ladakh,” he added.
