The Sonamarg area of the Srinagar-Kargil highway was closed for traffic movement on Tuesday due to the occurrence of two snow avalanches in Zojila, blocking the road at two different locations.
According to an official, the closure of the Srinagar-Kargil highway at Sonamarg was caused by two snow avalanches that occurred in the Zojila region at Panimatha and Kai-pathri. The official also stated that there is ongoing light snowfall and rain in the area.
According to a tweet by Kargil police, the Srinagar-Kargil National Highway-1 has been blocked due to avalanches at Panimatha and Kai-pathri in Zojila, and traffic has been halted at Sonamarg. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been engaged to clear the road.
