Authorities on Monday temporarily suspended vehicular movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway after mudslide and landslide occurred at several places on the stretch.

The officials said that due to mudslide at Mehad, Ramban and landslide at Tabela Chamalwass, Banihal the vehicular movement on the highway was suspended temporarily.

They said that people are advised to avoid journey on NH-44 till the weather improves and the road is clear.

“People are requested to contact Traffic Control Unit (TCU) before starting the journey,” officials said.

Notably Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall and rains on Monday, affecting normal life and bringing down the temperatures in the Himalayan region.

As the region grapples with these natural challenges, residents and travellers are urged to exercise caution, stay informed about the latest developments, and adhere to official advisories to ensure their safety. The reopening of the highway will depend on the progress made in the ongoing clearance operations and weather conditions in the coming days.
