On Monday, Spotify implemented limitations on certain free services in India, aiming to boost its paid Premium subscription base nationwide. Now, specific features are no longer accessible for free, requiring Indian users to opt for a Spotify Premium membership to use them.
The Swedish company introduced its audio streaming services in India in February 2019.
Services Now Restricted: As of October 9, the date of the announcement, the following features, which were previously free, are now ‘locked’ and only available to Spotify Premium subscribers:
- Playing songs in a specific order.
- Returning to a particular part of a song.
- Repeating or revisiting a previous song.
What Can Free Users Still Do?
They can still select and play songs, enjoying them for as long as they wish. Additionally, song recommendations remain accessible.
Benefits of Spotify Premium: By opting for Spotify Premium, users can enjoy ad-free music, save data through offline listening, play music across various devices (speakers, TV, etc.), and make convenient payments through options like Paytm and UPI.
Four Plans Available: Spotify offers four subscription plans: Mini (₹7/day; valid for one mobile account only), Individual (₹119/month after a 30-day free trial; for a single account), Duo (₹149/month after a one-month free trial; covers two accounts), and Family (₹179/month after a 30-day free trial; supports up to six accounts).
