The Sikh community today took out a splendid Nagar Kirtan procession which began from Gurudwara Bibi Chand Kaur near Jewel area of Jammu city. Devotees and participants were heard reciting religious hymns, prayers, exhibiting uniqueness of Sikh culture.
The procession was taken out in relation with 357th Parkash Utsav (birthday) of Tenth Guru of Sikhs Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, which will be observed on 17th Jan.
Several youth were seen performing Gatka during the Nagar Kirtan procession while many school children in groups also took part in the Nagar Kirtan procession who were dressed in religious attires and chanted religious slogans with exuberance.
Speaking to the media, Mr Harshdeep Singh, who was dressed in religious attire riding a bike told media, “We urge local people to come and watch Nagar Kirtan and see the fraternity of Sikhism”.
“We all know that every year we take out this procession so that our culture can be saved and to keep away our youth from drug addiction. We organise Nagar kirtan for youngsters so they get to know our history, Gurus, and the significance and history of Nagar Kirtan. This procession is being taken out in connection of birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji”, another participant of Nagar Kirtan procession said.
