Special Air India chartered flight leaves from Barbados as Team India fly back home

A special chartered flight by Air India has left Barbados Airport to bring the victorious team India back home after their T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Notably, after winning the tournament, the Men in Blue have been left stranded in the nation due to Hurricane Beryl which has wreaked havoc in the Caribbean islands.

Keeping the destructive nature of the hurricane in mind, the team was advised to stay in their hotels and have been in the country ever since their victory on 29th June. Hence, with the weather finally clearing in Barbados, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) arranged a special chartered flight for the team to return home.BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has also offered the stranded Indian media personnel in Barbados to travel with the team back home. The fans are eagerly waiting for the return of team India following their second T20 World Cup win. The Men in Blue beat South Africa by seven runs in the final on Saturday, June 29 at Kensington Oval Bridgetown, Barbados.

After opting to bat first, India posted a good score of 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs with Virat Kohli top-scoring with his innings of 76 (59). In reply, South Africa could only reach 169/8 in their 20 overs with Hardik Pandya (3/20) successfully defending 15 runs for India in the final over.

As a result, India emerged victorious in the thrilling encounter and brought an end to their 11-year-long ICC Trophy drought. The Men in Blue last won a major title in 2013 by clinching the Champions Trophy in England also under Dhoni’s leadership and had lost five finals since then.

However, they managed to hold their nerve against South Africa and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to send the entire nation into a frenzy. The entire country awaits the return of World Champions who as promised ‘raised the national flag’ in Barbados by winning the final.
