SpaceX’s Starship Super Heavy rocket is set to launch its third test flight from the Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas on Thursday.
This follows the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) recent approval, as SpaceX aims to demonstrate the capabilities of what is heralded as the most powerful rocket ever designed.
The anticipation for this launch has been building, especially after the previous two attempts in 2023 ended dramatically with the spacecraft failing to reach orbital speeds and ultimately exploding.
Despite these setbacks, SpaceX has been undeterred, implementing numerous corrective actions as recommended by the FAA to address issues such as leaking propellant that were identified during the last attempt.
Today’s launch window opens at 5:00 pm IST, with SpaceX targeting a splashdown in the Indian Ocean, a departure from the earlier attempts aimed closer to Hawaii.
This change in trajectory is part of SpaceX’s strategy to test new in-space engine burns while ensuring maximum public safety.
