Sopore: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, while reacting on SKUAST sexual harassment cases on Saturday, said every girl has a right to speak whenever and wherever things go wrong with her.
Addressing a students gathering in Sopore, Dr. Sehrish as per Kashmir Despatch said: “I am not afraid of speaking on sensitive issues. Every girl and woman has the right to speak whenever and wherever she feels something wrong around her, but at the same time, one has to approach concerned authorities, whether it’s in college, school, or at any workplace.”
She added: “If things don’t go well, they can personally approach me, and I assure them that justice will be done.”
Dr. Sehrish said at the same time: “We should look into our value system and why we are feeling insecure going to those places that are meant to be normal for women.”
She said that as a society, it’s the responsibility of every individual to know about the value and rights of women.
She further said that men also need to be aware of women rights.
Dr. Sehrish said that her administration will take harsh steps against those involved in any wrong practices, especially harrassing women.
Pertinently, A day after an alleged sexual harassment incident surfaced in where Kashmir University of Agriucltural Science and Technology (SKUAST) campus in Wadoora Sopore, Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad said that the institution will come up with an online grievance portal for the students within days.
This was second such sexual harrasment case reported in Sopore in a week.
Earleir, this week, a girl student in Sopore’s degree college accused a college professor of sexually harassing her, after which a panel to probe the allegation was constituted. The inquiry is pending in the case
