Srinagar, July 12: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) inaugurated a Season Long Training Programme (SLTP) on Apple today at the VC Conference Hall. The event brought together dignitaries, experts, and trainees to advance horticultural practices in the region.
I/C Vice Chancellor Dr Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi emphasized the importance of continuous training and innovation in horticulture for sustainable and profitable apple farming. Dr JP Singh, Plant Protection Adviser, GOI, attended virtually.
Key attendees included Choudhary Mohd Iqbal, Director of Agriculture, Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, Director of Horticulture, and Dr. Mahendra Kumar Verma, Director of ICAR-CITH, among other prominent figures from SKUAST-K and government departments.
The training programme aims to equip participants from the State Horticulture Department with the latest scientific knowledge and innovative techniques in apple cultivation. Dr. Makhdoomi urged trainees to maximize this opportunity to enhance their skills.
Agricultural and horticultural directors expressed their commitment to supporting such initiatives. ICAR-CITH and SKUAST-K representatives highlighted the importance of research, development, and education in transforming apple cultivation practices.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Haroon Rashid Hakla, APPO (PP) CIPMC Srinagar. This SLTP is expected to foster growth, innovation, and sustainability in apple farming, setting new benchmarks for the region’s horticulture sector.
