New Delhi, April 18, 2025 : Congress MP and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi is leading the legal challenge against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the Supreme Court. After two days of hearings, the Court paused key parts of the law until May 5, a rare move against a fresh Act. Singhvi said the Court targeted the core provisions and dismissed claims that the stay was minor.
He outlined fresh concerns over sections that give Collectors unchecked powers to delay Waqf property registrations and block access to courts. Singhvi stressed that the petitioners are not asking for a complete stay of the entire law, countering government claims. gulistan news tv latest news
On the National Herald case, Singhvi defended Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, calling the charge sheet legally weak and politically motivated. He said there was no evidence of money laundering or financial crime. gulistan news tv latest news
Responding to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s criticism of the judiciary, Singhvi firmly backed the Supreme Court’s use of Article 142, saying it was necessary to protect democracy against politically motivated actions by Governors in Opposition-led states. gulistan news tv latest news
He also supported the idea that if the President delays a bill after a second referral, there should be deemed assent to prevent indefinite hold-ups. gulistan news tv latest news
