A Punjabi singer has again sparked controversy by describing the Dogra community as traitors in his very recent song ‘Sher-E-Punjab’.
The singer recalls the erstwhile ruler of Punjab King Ranjit Singh and motivates youth to become like him and follow the principles of Sikh Gurus. But in all this he also called out the Dogra community as traitors, who primarily lives in J&K and in some portion of Punjab state.
Longia has described the Dogra community as betrayers and hand in glove with Britishers when they colonised the Indian subcontinent. However, the targeted community has opposed and criticised the song for defaming them.
Criticising the Sher-E-Punjab singer, a local Dogra youth Vikramaditya Singh, said, “We don’t know who this man is. He used to mimic rapper Bohemia and some people to seek attention needed something to spark a controversy and he has become successful in doing this. I thought of giving some clarification to Punjabi singers who tag Dogras as traitors in their songs.
Singh added, “It is my view that the Punjabi leadership whether of past and present has this drawback to accuse others of their failures when they couldn’t fulfill promises made to their people. We are happy in Jammu and live with love here. There are conversions, drug trade that is going on in Punjab, recently one of our youth has tried to expose their drug crisis. They have always tried to accuse others and don’t accept their mistakes.”
He further added that Maharaja Gulab Singh joined as soldier in Khalsa army and gradually with his dedication gained a high status in the Lahore darbar. Maharaja Gulab Singh’s sons and his brothers sons also gave sacrifices by giving up their lives for Punjab king. After the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh his kingdom suffered a great setback and in these crisis his family members lost their lives. Maharaja Gulab Singh left the darbar and during the Anglo-Sikh wars he sent his own people to fight against English with the Sikhs and also supported Sikhs in Afghan wars”.
The Punjabi video song ‘Sher E Punjab’ sung by Gopi Longia and its background music is given by Turban Beat and lyrics of the song are also penned by Longia. The music video of the song is directed by Neeraj Libra.
In 2022, a Punjabi song ‘Maharani Jinda’n’ sung by Arjan Dhillon released by Brown Studios received flak when it defamed the Dogra community.
