Unidentified people opened fire at Lord Jagannath’s chariot, popularly known as Konung Kang, in Shree Shree Govindajee temple in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Friday. There were no reports of any casualties, and the assembling work of the chariot continued uninterrupted.
The temple board, which is organising the Ratha Yatra, confirmed that the procession will proceed as scheduled on July 8 at 1.30 pm. The armed miscreants fired shots despite the presence of the Border Security Force (BSF) and state forces, causing tension in the area. According to police, the attack occurred around 12.30 am.
