A trainee policeman undergoing the Basic Recruitment Training Course (BRTC) at the Police Training School, Manigam, was tragically killed on Friday after being shot by the rifle of an on-duty sentry.
The incident has sparked concerns about safety protocols at the training facility. The sentry involved in the firing has been taken into custody, and authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Ragav S, confirmed the developments and assured swift action.
“We have taken cognisance of the matter, and the accused is in custody,” SSP Ragav Gbl comprehensive inquiry is in full swing to determine the facts and address any potential lapses. Our condolences go out to the bereaved family.”
The identity of the deceased trainee has not been released, but his family has been informed of the tragedy.
