Benchmark stock market indices fell on Thursday due to sustained selling pressure from foreign institutional investors. This is because they are worried about the possibility of a prolonged high interest regime across the globe.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.42 per cent to 59,159.40 as of 9:36 am, while the NSE Nifty 50 was trading 0.42 per cent lower at 17,378.55. Broader market indices were mixed due to a slight jump in volatility.
