Sensex and Nifty Rebound, Supported by IT and Oil Sector Gains

Sensex and Nifty, the benchmark stock indices, halted their two-day decline on Monday, supported by gains in the IT, oil and gas, and telecom sectors amidst positive sentiment in global markets.

The 30-share BSE Sensex concluded at 62,724.71, rising by 99.08 points or 0.16 percent. Throughout the day, it reached a high of 62,804.89, marking a gain of 179.26 points or 0.28 percent.

The NSE Nifty closed at 18,601.50, showing an increase of 38.10 points or 0.21 percent.

Among the major gainers in the Sensex were Infosys, HCL Technologies, NTPC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Nestle, Tech Mahindra, and Bajaj Finance. On the other hand, Power Grid, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti, Titan, HDFC Bank, Wipro, HDFC, and ITC were among the laggards.

While Tokyo and Hong Kong ended in positive territory, Seoul and Shanghai experienced declines in Asian markets. In Europe, equity markets were trading positively, and the US markets concluded on a positive note on Friday.

The global oil benchmark, Brent crude, decreased by 2.54 percent to reach USD 72.91 per barrel.

According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹308.97 crore on Friday.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, stated, “The domestic indices are treading cautiously as investors prepare for a week filled with significant data releases in both domestic and global markets. However, the outlook remains optimistic, with expectations of moderation in Indian CPI and the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan (BoJ) maintaining their policy rates. Other important events on the horizon include domestic IIP, WPI inflation, and policy announcements from the European Central Bank (ECB).”

On Friday, the 30-share BSE benchmark declined by 223.01 points or 0.35 percent, settling at 62,625.63. The Nifty also dropped by 71.15 points or 0.38 percent, ending at 18,563.40.
