The J&K police chief R R Swain Monday said that the security in the Union Territory shouldn’t be a status symbol but a need basis affair. The police chief said this in a reply to question about the recent statement of Home Minister Amit Shah on the Armed Forces Special Act.

DGP Swain also said that his force was working on a plan to ‘ensure individual security is established.’

“In Europe, police chief moves around with just two guards. There is a different security system and atmosphere all around as they have secured the areas. We have not reached that stage yet,” DGP told reporters at Police Training School in Jammu’s Kathua.

About the reduction in security forces, he said that is being considered due to change in the situation here.

Forces have to give security to people and protected persons in a professional manner, the DGP said.

“We are trying to get connected to the people and other stakeholders to make them believe in police force. We are trying to create an atmosphere where we will ensure that through technology, and other means we give a proper security while cutting the size of persons entrusted to protect people,” the DGP said as per a local news agency.
