Pulwama, Jun 01 : A search and rescue operation has been launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in coordination with local authorities after a 21-year-old youth reportedly drowned in the River Jhelum near Khanibugh, Lethpora area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Reports reaching Said that the incident occurred earlier today when Fayaz slipped into the river under unknown circumstances. Locals immediately alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from SDRF Pulwama and Awantipora units.
The youth has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad, son of Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Akhnoor.
Rescue teams, including divers and local volunteers, are currently engaged in an intensive search effort along the stretch of the river where the incident occurred. The operation is being closely monitored by district administration officials.
