Sealing mutton shops decision taken amid haste: Khurshid Alam

Former Legislator and Peoples Conference Provincial President Kashmir Mohammad Khurshid Alam on Thursday expressed concern over the pervasive crises engulfing the mutton dealers in Kashmir, demanding that a comprehensive mechanism should be put in place to deal with such issues amicably.

In a statement issued here, Alam said that it is unfortunate to find the shops being sealed by the administration in an unabated manner causing severe hardships to the mutton dealers and common masses. He added that, unfortunately, people are suffering for their no-fault and amid winters when businesses in Kashmir are already reeling under distress, the closure of shops is frightening.

Alam said that the government instead of adopting such a confrontational approach must address the issue based on merit and comprehend how come the rates are surging and whether the suppliers too are at fault. He added that cracking a whip against the small shopkeepers is highhandedness of the authorities and it would have been a timely action if a comprehensive mechanism is adopted so that the rates are kept in check while as at the same time not allowing people and mutton shop keepers to suffer.
