Sub Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar, Sonam Dorjay along with JE PWD and officials of Electric and Mechanical Department today visited Zongkhul Gonpa to review the snow clearance work of road, electricity and drinking water facilities.
Sarpanch, Lambardar of Atting and Head Lama informed the visitors that the area is avalanche prone and the Mechanical Department has cleared the road five times this winter and today it is the 6th time.
They also expressed their gratitude to the administration and Mechanical Department. Due to avalanches, the electric poles collapsed and tilted which disrupted the electricity supply. The Electric Department replaced poles this winter but again collapsed due to avalanches.
The concerned officials informed the SDM that it is impossible to replace the damaged poles and restore the electricity this time due to avalanches and heavy snow accumulation.
The Monks and public representatives requested the SDM to provide an alternate lighting system like solar light or generator until the main power supply is restored.
The Monks also demanded to lay the line underground so that the avalanche would not affect the power supply.
The SDM assured them that the road will be clear by today evening as the machines of the Mechanical Department are working hard.
He also assured them that he will arrange a generator for lighting and also take up the underground cable line demand with the higher authorities. *News no 3*
