Srinagar, May 12 (Gulistan News):
Amid improving conditions in several parts of the region Monday announced that all schools located in non-border areas of Jammu and Kashmir will reopen on Tuesday, 13th May 2025.
Minister Itoo stated, “All schools of Jammu and Kashmir falling outside the border areas shall reopen on Tuesday.” She added that the government is actively monitoring the situation in border districts and a final decision regarding the reopening of schools in those areas will be taken on Tuesday. The Minister clarified that schools in sensitive and border-adjacent regions—which have witnessed escalated tensions and security-related concerns—will remain closed until a comprehensive review is conducted.”As far as the reopening of schools in border areas is concerned, we will take the call on Tuesday after evaluating the ground situation,” Itoo said.
Meanwhile, the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) issued a parallel statement confirming that all educational institutions in the Kashmir Division will resume functioning from May 13, except in the border districts of:
• Kupwara
• Baramulla
• Sub-division Gurez in Bandipora district
The DSEK emphasized that the decision has been made keeping in view student safety, travel feasibility, and the current security assessment of the concerned districts.
Schools across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir had been closed following recent security-related advisories and escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). The temporary suspension of academic activities was aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and support staff, especially in vulnerable areas.
With the situation stabilizing in many districts, the authorities have opted for a phased reopening, starting with non-border regions.
• Classes will resume as usual in areas not categorized as border or high-risk zones.
• Transport and school security protocols have been reinforced by the administration in coordination with local police units.
• Parents in border areas are advised to wait for the official communication from their respective district administration or school heads on Tuesday.
