If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to urgently send money to someone but accidentally transfer it to the wrong account number, it’s natural to feel concerned about the loss of your hard-earned money. However, there’s no need to panic. Recently, a customer of State Bank of India (SBI) experienced a similar situation when they mistakenly transferred funds to an incorrect account number.

The customer, named Ravi Agrawal, took to Twitter to inform SBI about the payment made to the wrong account number by mistake. They had followed the helpline instructions and provided all the necessary details to their branch. However, Ravi Agrawal expressed disappointment as the branch did not provide any information regarding the reversal of the amount.

Responding to the tweet, the official SBI handle clarified that if a customer mentions the wrong account number of the beneficiary, the customer’s home branch would initiate follow-up processes with other banks, ensuring no financial liabilities on the customer’s part. In case any issues arise at the branch, customers were advised to raise a complaint at https://crcf.sbi.co.in/ccf. They should select the “Personal” segment and choose the category “Individual customer – General Banking/ Branch related/ No response to queries.” It was requested to provide detailed information about the issue in the comment box. The concerned team would investigate and address the matter accordingly.

Another user tweeted, seeking help to retrieve a payment of INR 10,000 that was mistakenly made to another account using the SBI application through IMPS (Immediate Payment Service).

In response, the bank urged customers to verify bank account details before digitally transferring money, stating that the bank would not be responsible for any erroneous transactions made by customers.

However, the SBI handle assured customers that their home branch could initiate a follow-up process with the other bank involved, without incurring any financial liabilities.
