Samba Police arrested two individuals with 67 illicit liquor bottles and ₹1,18,100 in cash. The operation took place late Saturday night in the town of Samba.
Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a checkpoint on the outskirts of Samba. During the checkpoint, they stopped a vehicle with two occupants. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the illicit liquor and cash.
The suspects failed to provide valid documents for the liquor. They also could not explain the source of the cash. The police immediately detained the individuals and seized the contraband.
According to the police, the suspects intended to distribute the liquor illegally in the region. The cash found with them was likely proceeds from previous illegal sales. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the operation.
The arrested individuals were identified as Rajesh Kumar and Sanjay Sharma. Both are residents of the Samba district. They were taken to the local police station for further questioning.
The police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Excise Act and the Indian Penal Code. They also sent the seized liquor bottles for further examination.
This operation is part of a broader crackdown on illegal liquor trade in the region. The Samba Police have increased vigilance to curb the illicit liquor trade. They have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal liquor.
Samba’s Senior Superintendent of Police commended the team for their swift action. He reiterated the department’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
The arrested individuals will be produced before the court in the coming days. The police are hopeful that further investigation will lead to more arrests and the dismantling of the entire network.
The authorities continue to appeal for cooperation from the community to eliminate illegal activities in Samba. The crackdown on illicit liquor is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
