Amid reports that the Jammu & Kashmir government has recommended holding an Assembly session in March, Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday raised objections to the timing, arguing that the session would be inconvenient for the majority of MLAs due to the coinciding holy month of Ramadan.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lone, a prominent opposition leader, expressed his disapproval of the government’s plan to summon the Assembly session from the first week of March, a period that overlaps with Ramadan.

“A humble reminder to the elected government: It is Ramadan in the month of March. Holding the Assembly session in March would be inconvenient for a majority of the MLAs,” Lone wrote He further highlighted that the month of Ramadan is a time for fasting, prayers, and reflection, which would make it difficult for many elected representatives to fully participate in legislative duties.

Lone’s criticism comes a day after the Jammu and Kashmir government recommended scheduling the Assembly session in the first week of March, despite the religious and practical challenges the timing might pose for lawmakers. The issue has sparked debate about the timing of official events during Ramadan, with some questioning the government’s disregard for the religious observances of its legislators.
