Srinagar, April 12 (Gulistan News TV): Residents of Gassi Mohalla, Safa Kadal Srinagar have raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of a public park in their locality. Initially managed by the Department of Floriculture, the park was later handed over to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). However, locals allege that the SMC has neglected the park, turning it into a source of inconvenience rather than recreation.

The residents highlighted several issues plaguing the park, including overgrown grass, broken shades and the presence of stray dogs. “The park has become an eyesore. Instead of serving as a recreational space, it resembles a wilderness,” said a local resident, Javid Ahmad

Adding to their grievances, the residents claimed that no caretaker has been appointed for the park’s maintenance, leaving it in complete disrepair. They further alleged that some drug addicts frequent the park in the evenings, creating an unsafe environment for the community, especially women and children.

The locals have appealed to the authorities to take immediate action to renovate the park, ensure regular upkeep and address the safety concerns of the area. “We urge the administration to restore the park to its original condition and make it a safe, clean space for public use,” they demanded.

Speaking in this regard, an SMC official stated that the issue has not come to their notice yet but assured that they will look into the matter. He further mentioned that efforts will be made to resolve the issue promptly.
