Russia says it shot down eight Ukrainian drones over Crimea's Sevastopol

According to a Moscow-appointed official, Russia’s air defense forces and Black Sea fleet successfully intercepted eight Ukrainian drones over the port of Sevastopol in Crimea early Sunday morning.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, stated on the Telegram messaging app that no damage occurred to any objects in the city or the water area.

Razvozhayev further mentioned that one drone was shot down over the sea, five were intercepted by Russia’s electronic warfare forces, and two water surface drones were destroyed along the outer shore.

Earlier, Razvozhayev stated that the attacks took place over Sevastopol’s harbor and the Balaklava and Khersones districts.

There has been no immediate response from Ukraine regarding the attack on the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

While Ukraine rarely claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine, they have recently expressed that targeting Russia’s military infrastructure aids Kyiv’s counteroffensive.
