The Tourism Enforcement Wing has recovered fines amounting to over Rs 19 Lakh for various violations during the year 2023, officials said on Thursday.
The tourism enforcement police wing also registered approximately 14 First Information Reports (FIRs) under different sections of the Tourist Trade Act during 2023.
Official sources revealed that the enforcement wings were tasked with addressing various violations committed by tourism service providers in JK, including offenses such as overpricing, cheating, fake gondola ticketing, and others.
“The complaints highlighted issues related to overcharging and cheating by various tourism service providers, including Shikara walas, guides, drivers, and other service providers,” he said.
Dr Choudhary emphasised the department’s commitment to addressing complaints. “Apart from regular inspections across Jammu and Kashmir, our department takes cognizance of all complaints. Last year, over 14 FIRs were registered for various violations.”
He noted that apart from the fine collection amounting to over Rs 19 lakh, an additional amount of Rs 10 lakh was also refunded to individuals who were charged extra.
“The robust enforcement sends a clear message about the tourism department’s commitment to ensuring fair and transparent practices within the tourism industry,” he said.
